This is an error screen which indicates a system crash. The operating system is no longer able to operate properly.

Devices commonly overheat when they have been used for an extended period of time, especially when intensive programs are being run. Intensive programs take up a large amount of RAM, CPU, and GPU which then makes the battery work harder.

Temporarily stop using the device to allow it to cool down. If the problem continues, invest in an external cooling device for your laptop, like a cooling pad.

RAM (Random Access Memory) gets exhausted over time and can lead to your computer freezing or the Blue Screen of Death. Bad RAM or corrupted files may be causing the issue, getting rid of both of these can help get the device running again.

To potentially help memory problems delete any unnecessary files.

  • Open the Windows logo “Start” button, located in the lower left corner.Select the “Settings” Gear-shaped Settings icon.Go to “System”.Go to “Storage”Turn on “Storage Sense” to delete any unnecessary files automatically.

Another option is to invest in external storage devices.

The screen is frozen on one image and will not respond to further instruction.

Device drivers are an integral part of software and allow the device to run smoothly and effectively. Monitors often freeze because drivers are out of date and can not run programs properly anymore.

Intensive programs take up a large amount of RAM, CPU, and GPU which then makes the battery work harder. This can create a strain on the operating system and cause the device to freeze.

  • Press “Ctrl+Alt+Delete”Click on “Task Manager”.Proceed to end the program that may be taking a lot of computing power from your system. These are the programs that take high percentages of your CPU.Right-Click the program, then click “End Task”.

The keys on the keyboard are not responding or are broken/missing.

Keys are usually not broken, just a little bit dirty from everyday use. It is important to take good care of any device and clean it regularly.

  • Spray compressed air between and underneath the keys to remove debris that may be causing the keys to stick.

The speakers produce low-quality sound or cut out often.

The quality of sound can be affected if debris is clogging the speakers. It is important to be careful with food or drink items around technology in order to prevent malfunctions.

The device runs out of battery quickly after a full charge (battery cannot hold a charge).

Device age and amount of use can greatly affect the battery life. One factor that can increase device battery life is simply changing your settings to be more efficient. Lowering the screen brightness and amount of time before the monitor goes to sleep will optimize the battery life.

Use windows battery saving settings to mitigate battery usage.

  • Open the Windows logo “Start” button, located in the lower left corner.Select the “Settings” Gear-shaped Settings icon.Go to “System”.Go to “Power & Sleep” then customize a power plan.For more advanced settings, click “Additional Power Settings”.

If the device is old then the battery may have simply worn down and need replacement. However, if the device is new then the battery may be faulty. Depending on how long the user has had the device, this may be under warranty.

The touch-pad does not respond to clicks or the mouse does not scroll with touch.

A simple reason the touch-pad isn’t working can be found in the settings. Many devices come with the option of disabling the touch-pad because some users prefer using a mouse.

  • In the search box type “Touch-pad’’”’’.Touch or click “Mouse & Touch-pad Settings” (System settings).Look for a “Touch-pad On/Off Toggle”.When there is a “Touch-pad On/Off Toggle”.Click the “Touch-pad On/Off Toggle”.When there is not a “Touch-pad On/Off Toggle”.Click “Additional Mouse Options” at the bottom of the screen.Click the “Microsoft Touch-pad” tab.Click the picture of the touch-pad.Click the “Touch-pad On/Off Toggle”.Make sure Touch-pad is On, click “Save”.If neither of these options exist, read below for another solution.

If the touch-pad is not simply disabled, there may be an internal problem. Wires can occasionally wiggle loose and cause a disconnection between the input and output of the touch-pad.
