What you need

Step 1

              Motor               
  • This is the removable top cover of the NuTone Model 599 Power Brush.
  • Flip the body of the vacuum over to work on the underside.

Step 2

  • Remove the four screws from the corners of the bottom cover with a Phillips #3 screwdriver.

  • Turn over the assembly.
  • Lift the top cover off of the device.
  • The cover shouldn’t put up any fuss and should come off fairly easily if the screws have been properly removed.

  • Remove the two screws on each side of the clamp holding the motor in place.
  • Lift the clamp off of the motor.

  • There are only two wire nuts in the motor compartment of the brush.
  • The wire nuts are located under the light bulb to the left of the motor.

  • Take the caps off and untwist each of the cable bundles, removing the white wire from each of them.

  • Place the new motor in the cradle and screw the clamp in place with a Phillips #3 screwdriver.
  • Run the new wires through where the old wires were so that they stick out near the cable bundles.
  • If you have ordered a new motor, follow the installation instructions that come with it as the wiring might be slightly different.

Step 8

  • Connect the two new cables to each of the wire bundles, being sure to match the cables with their corresponding bundles in the same way the old motor was configured.
  • Twist the wire bundles and then put on the blue caps so they are snug.
  • Remember to follow the directions for the wiring connection that come with your new motor. They could be a bit different.

  • You are done! You can now replace the cover and screws.
  • Remember to replace the drive belt onto the new motor as shown.
