The phone will not light up or display anything.

Make sure your device is properly plugged into a working outlet.

(to check this, plug a light into the outlet and see if it turns on)

At this point it is recommended that you replace the circuit board, as this is the most likely cause of the problem. Follow the Nortel Networks i2004 IP Circuit Board Guide and put the new circuit board in instead of the old one.

Screen is blank or shows distorted lines.

If the display is just not making sense try unplugging the phone, waiting a minute then plugging it back in.

If the display is not working, type in the factory reset code (**73639MAC##)

Follow the Nortel Networks i2004 IP Circuit Board Guide and focus on checking all of the wiring connections to make sure the display panel is connected.

The circuit board is faulty and needs to be replaced. Follow the Nortel Networks i2004 IP Circuit Board Guide and put the new circuit in instead of the old one.

With the device turned on and plugged in, make sure that the volume is all the way up. If this does not solve your problem, continue reading.

If the volume is all the way up and no audio is coming out of the speakers you may have a problem with the speakers or wiring. Check the Nortel Networks i2004 IP Speaker Guide if this is the case.

Make sure your phone is plugged into the proper phone jack.

(to check this, use a phone that you know works)

If you can hear them and they can’t hear you, you need to replace your handset. Refer to the Nortel Networks i2004 IP Handset Guide.

Pressing buttons does nothing

There may be dust or other particles preventing the buttons from making the circuit they need to provide input. Use the Nortel Networks i2004 IP Buttons Guide to get to the buttons and clean the dust out from the buttons.

Check to make sure that the buttons are not simply misaligned. If they are, attempt to jiggle them back into place. If this does not appear to work, the buttons may be broken. Refer to this guide for help with replacing the Nortel Networks i2004 IP Buttons Guide.

If your phone still doesn’t respond to input after clearing the contacts, the circuit board may be broken. Follow the Nortel Networks i2004 IP Circuit Board Guide and put the new circuit in instead of the old one.
