Introduction

The Switch Pro Controller uses JIS screws, but you can use a Phillips screwdriver in a pinch. Be very careful not to strip the screws. iFixit’s Phillips bits are designed to be cross-compatible with JIS-style screws.

NOTE: an improperly sync Switch Pro controller will not charge properly. To determine if your battery is faulty and needs replacing, you can first re-sync your controller and, while plugged in, check within the Switch controllers menu if it is charging properly.

              Remove the screws               
  • Flip the controller over so the model stickers face the ceiling.
  • Use a JIS 00 driver or an official iFixit PH 00 driver to remove the two black flathead 8.4 mm-long screws that secure the handles, located at the ends of the handles.

              Remove the handle covers               
  • Carefully remove the handle covers by pulling them away from the main body.

              Remove the screws               
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four silver 6.8 mm-long screws that secure the clear back plastic cover.

              Unclip the plastic cover               
  • Carefully pry away the clear plastic cover using your fingernail.

              Remove the battery               
  • Remove the lithium-ion battery by using a fingernail or plastic opening tool to pry it up on the left side.
  • Only a small amount of force is needed.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

For optimal performance, calibrate your newly installed battery after completing this guide.

My controller would not turn on one day. Followed this guide to remove the battery and just reseat it . Works now! Thank you!
