The circle pad (analog stick/joystick) is too loose, does not return to center, is difficult to move, or does not move at all.

If the circle pad is sticky or hard to move, there may be debris lodged within. Follow the guide to remove the circle pad in order to check for any debris that may be causing the issue. Debris can be safely removed with compressed air or a cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

It is possible that the mechanisms inside the circle pad have broken. If this is the case, you will need to replace it. See the circle pad replacement guide.

If the console will turn on but freezes at a black screen without going to the home menu, it’s possible that there’s a problem with the NAND chip on the motherboard itself, whether it be a loose connection or just general failure. Replacing the motherboard itself could potentially solve the problem. See the motherboard replacement guide.
