When pressed and held, the power button does not cause device to power on.

From the User Manual available for download at http://www.nextbookusa.com/productdetail

‘‘Tablet does not turn on, what to do? It may be because the battery is completely discharged. Charge the tablet for at least 4 hours, and then press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds to turn on the tablet.

If using the tablet for the first time, or after a long period of idle time, charge the battery for more than half an hour before turning it on, to ensure system stability.’’

If the battery is found to be faulty, the battery must be replaced.

To remove a low battery as a potential cause, connect the charger to the battery and plug the charger into a known-good power outlet. If the red charging light does not illuminate, proceed to the next step.

If the red charging light illuminates, but the device still does not power up, remove the battery and inspect the contact terminals on the battery and device for dirt, damage, or debris. If necessary, clean the individual contacts with rubbing alcohol, making sure to not allow the fluid to touch more than one contact at a time.

If contacts are clean and undamaged, charge battery for 30 minutes or longer, then check battery voltage with a multimeter to ensure 5 VDC is being output. TO CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE OUTPUT, use a multimeter set to the 5 VDC range, and place the leads between the two battery connections for voltage. If battery voltage is good, then proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

To remove the charger as a potential cause, check to make sure that the proper charger is being used, and that the voltage and current being supplied to the device is what the device calls for (5VDC 2.5A). If the correct charger is being used, test for voltage using a multimeter set to measure DC Volts (DCV) to ensure that the charging port is outputting the correct voltage (5 VDC). Inspect the DC ports on the charger and device for damage. If there is no damage or debris on either port, the fault may be the device charger port or the power button.

If pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds after performing the previous steps in the Device Will Not Power On section does not create any response, then the power button or device DC power port may be defective.

If pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds after performing the previous steps in the Device Will Not Power On section does not create any response, then the power button or device DC power port may be defective. If the power port is defective, it must be replaced.

When connected, and the supplied charger plugged in, the battery does not charge at a normal rate (about 5 hours to full charge from full discharge).

From the user manual,

There are 3 main possible reasons for this problem: bad connection, improper temperature condition, damaged battery or adapter. As for bad connection, user should:

  1. Check all connectors to ensure proper connectivity.

  2. Unplug the supplied AC power adapter from the wall and verify that the outlet is functioning.

  3. Check all cable connections, plug the adapter back into the tablet, and then plug back into the wall outlet.

And for improper temperature condition, i.e. the tablet’s temperature is below 0 °C or higher than 35 °C, user should change the location and charge the battery in an ambient temperature between 0 °C to 35 °C. And if the battery or adapter has been damaged, contact an authorized reseller to replace the battery or power adapter."

If the battery is not charging at all, and the supplied charger is outputting the correct voltage, then the fault may be caused by a faulty DC power port. To check the DC power port, the case must be opened. A video showing the process can be found at Scotties Hobbies

When contact is made, the screen does not respond properly to user commands.

To remove narrator mode settings as a potential cause of improper response to touchscreen commands, the manual suggests the following:

You can touch Start > 19 Settings>Easy access>Narrator, then toggle the slider to turn off Narrator. Or press ESC and CapsLock button at the same time to turn off Narrator mode.

To remove a dirty screen as a potential cause of no improper response to touchscreen commands, follow the user manual’s instructions to clean the screen. The instructions are as follows:

After turning the tablet off,

  1. Moisten a soft, lint free cloth with either water or a display cleaner, and wipe the surface of the tablet until it is clean. Do not allow water from the cloth to seep down to the tablet ports or buttons.

  2. Remove any protective covers from the touch screen.

If the previous steps have failed to remedy the situation, turn the tablet off and then on again. If the fault is preventing a shutdown, follow the user manual’s instruction for a hard reset. To perform a hard reset, *** “Press and hold the Power button for 10 s to perform a hard shut down. Note: User will have to wait for about 8 seconds before turning on the tablet again after it shuts down.”

If the previous steps have failed to remedy the situation, the screen may be defective. To replace the screen, carefully remove plastic casing with plastic pry tool, starting at the weakest point, and going around the screen, being especially carefully around the keyboard connector. A video showing the full replacement process can be found here:

Camera does not initiate or does not work properly.

If your webcam or Camera app in Windows 10 won’t open and you get an error message saying that we can’t find or can’t start your camera (including error codes 0xA00F4244 or 0x200F4244), the cause might be antivirus software that’s blocking the webcam or camera, or it could be an outdated webcam driver.

If the previous steps did not remedy the situation, the camera may be defective. To replace the camera, the back case needs to be taken off, and the camera unit removed and replaced. Instructions for accessing the camera here.

Device does not project sound from speakers or audio devices.

If no sound is coming from an interface device, such as headphones inserted into the 3.5mm audio jack, try another device or the integrated speakers. If sounds come out of other devices, then your interface device is the problem.

When device is turned on there is no sound coming from the speakers.

To set speakers to default

  1. Click START, open SOUND under CONTROL PANEL

  2. Click the PLAYBACK tab.

  3. Select the SPEAKER icon.

  4. Click SET AS DEFAULT.

  5. Click APPLY and OK to save changes.

If sound comes out of the speakers, but not out of devices plugged into the 3.5mm audio jack, the audio jack may need to be replaced. Instructions for accessing the jack are here.
