The bottom of your laptop feels as if it is overheating when using it and it malfunctions or shuts off.

If your computer is overheating your first step would be to try using it on a hard, cool surface. If you are keeping it on an uneven surface (like your lap), the airflow is obstructed. You can also purchase a lap desk with ventilation to help with cooling, as body heat could contribute to the problem.

Dust build-up on the fan in the laptop can result in the laptop not being able to cool down properly. To fix this you will have to disassemble, clean the fan, or replace it.

The laptop will not react when power cord is connected to the power adaptor. This is a sign of a faulty battery.

If your computer will not charge, your first step is to confirm that the charging cord is working. You can do this by plugging it into a different outlet and verifying that the light is on. If the cord does not work, you may have to purchase a new cord. If this does not solve the problem, look below for what to do when your battery is defective.

If the laptop’s power light is on and you can hear the computer booting up but the screen does not respond at all, your screen may be disabled. If this is the case, you will have to turn off your laptop if it is not already. Then, you will need to remove the RAM (random access memory) from underneath the computer. This will serve as a reset.
