To activate autocomplete in Windows 2000 and later versions, follow the steps below.
- Open the Microsoft Windows Registry Editor by clicking Start, Run, type Regedit and click Ok.
- In the Microsoft Windows Registry Editor open the below folders.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftCommand Processor
- In command processor, edit the two registry keys mentioned below and change their value to 9.
CompletionCharPathCompleteChar
- Once the above steps are completed close out of the Registry Editor and open the command window by typing cmd in the Run window. To use the autocomplete feature, press the Tab whenever you want to complete a directory name. For example, if your current directory contains a directory called Documents, you can type cd Doc and press Tab, and the word Documents will be completed for you.
