The map command is part of the Recovery Console. It is used to display the name of a physical device associated with a drive letter.

Map syntax
Displays the of drive letters to physical devices and their corresponding names. This information is useful when you run the fixboot and fixmbr commands. The map command is only available when you are using the Recovery Console.
map [arc]
The arc option instructs the map command to display ARC (Advanced RISC Computing) device names instead of device names.
