Introduction

What you need

Step 1

Release the front of the drier
  • First open the door of your drier.
  • Remove the 5 screws ringed in red and blue. Keep them separate and arranged to go back into place; on my machine the screw ringed in blue was longer.
  • If you know the lock is broken, you should also loosen the screws ringed in yellow. If you remove them completely the lock may jam against the edge of the drier when opening.
  • You do not need to take the door off.

Step 2

Open the front of the drier
  • Pull (probably fairly hard) on the side of the drier on your left. This will open the front of the drier.
  • The front if hinged, so it should just swing open. Make sure you don’t bash the door on something!

Step 3

  • The plastic packet at the bottom of the drier contains a schematic and a wiring diagram.
  • At this point, make sure you have unplugged your drier before removing anything!
  • If you are changing the bulb, it is ringed in red. Sorry, mine wasn’t blown so I didn’t check the type

Step 4

              Fully remove the lock
  • Close the front of the machine slightly and fully release the screws. Hold onto the lock on the other side if you don’t want to let the wires support it.

Step 5

Swap the new lock in & reassemble
  • My unit had 7 wires connected, several of which looked identical. I had my replacement in hand so swapped them one by one.
  • Follow the instructions in reverse to reassemble!

These instructions were very useful to change the door lock on my Miele T1570C dryer. Additional steps include: you’ll need a torx driver; at the end of step 1, pull out and remove the reservoir at the top left of the face and then remove the 4-6 torx screws that are hidden by the reservoir (they hold on the top plastic piece). You can then swing open the panel as in step 2

Unfortunately, Josh’s very well produced guide doesn’t match the door interlock on my Miele T7744 C condenser dryer- which only has two wires bur also two cable, let alone what I found when when I took took it apart to check why the microswitch wasn’t operating even though it carried power ok (dismantling the interlock assembly was a bad move, the two big springs inside flew out and now I can’t work out how to re-assemble it)

My door would not lock on my Miele Novotronic T510,i found a video on You Tube (sorry cannot find it again) but he said before you change lock make sure that the lock is in the open position so that the catch can engage, there are two position open and closed and he used a strong piece of wire to adjust to the open position,i did this and the door worked perfectly so please check this before you start changing the lock.

Thank you for this work instruction to open the machine.

I have an old Novotronic 267 which stayed on anti-wrinkle (end of the program). Found on the internet that the door lock could be the problem.

And indeed it was. A new one is 180€. Just made a bridge over the micro switch. Dryer works again, only the door can now be opened while in operation but that is not a serious problem.

best regards,
