Name: Mark Dean

Born: March 2, 1957, in Jefferson City, Tennessee USA

  • Inventor and a computer engineer who lead the IBM team that developed the ISA bus and the first one-gigahertz computer processor chip.
  • Dean has also helped in the early development of the computer keyboard. He holds three of IBM’s original nine PC patents.

Significant publications

  • First African-American to become an IBM Fellow.
  • Inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame (1997).
