Step 1
Remove the sprocket guard plate
- Use a 13 mm socket to remove the two nuts securing the sprocket guard plate.

Remove the chain and guide bar
- If the chainsaw has a chain and guide bar installed, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and remove them before proceeding.
- During reassembly, if you are reinstalling the chain and guide bar, follow the manufacturers instructions on proper chain tensioning techniques.

Remove the chain brake cover
- Remove the four 12 mm long T27 screws securing the chain brake cover.

Remove the tensioner assembly
- Twist the tension screw clockwise until the slide bar stops at the right end.
- Remove the single 15.7 mm long T27 screw holding the chain tensioner assembly in place.

- Use your fingers to pull the assembly out of its recess and remove it.

- If the packing ring did not come out with the assembly, remove it from the recess.

Assemble the replacement tensioner
- The next three steps show how to prepare the new tensioning assembly for replacement.
- Lightly lubricate the packing ring and press it into the back of the adjustment screw.

- Slide the adjustment screw into the tensioning assembly such that the gears mesh together.

- Slide the shaped plastic bearing onto the end of the assembly.
- Lightly lubricate all moving surfaces.

- Line up the tensioning assembly with its recess in the chainsaw and push it into the recess.
- Make sure that the black plastic bearing slides in rounded-edge first.
