Explanation of iFixit cosmetic grading standards for MacBook display assemblies.

  • All used MacBook Pro display assemblies from 2016 or earlier models (as well as models A2141 and A1534), regardless of cosmetic condition, have been tested for full functionality. All used MacBook Air display assemblies from 2020 or earlier models, regardless of cosmetic condition, have been tested for full functionality.Used MacBook display assemblies are required to meet the same functional specifications as our new products. Those that do not meet this standard are rejected.Used MacBook display assemblies are classified as A-Stock, B-Stock, C-Stock, and Delaminated based solely upon cosmetic condition.

  • A-Stock displays are in excellent condition, often with no cosmetic blemishes. One or two faint scratches on the glass surface – not visible when the display is on – are considered acceptable at this grade.Scratches (if any) will not be deep enough to be felt with a bare finger.Minor wear on the rubber bezel is acceptable.

Display assemblies will be classified as B-Stock if they have one or two of these cosmetic issues:

  • Several faint scratches on the glass that do not interfere with visibility when the display is on.One or two deep scratches that do not exceed 10mm (2/5th of an inch) in length.Scratches or buffed areas on the metal casing that cannot be felt by a bare finger and do not exceed 25% coverage.Scratches or dents on any integrated plastic frame or rubber bezel.Refurbished metal casing with perceptibly changed texture.

Display assemblies will be classified as C-Stock if they have one or two of these cosmetic issues:

  • Several faint scratches on the glass that do not interfere with visibility when the display is on.Scratches, buffed areas, or small dents in the metal casing that does not exceed 25% coverage. Scratches can be significantly longer and deeper than B-stock.Scratches or dents on any integrated plastic frame or rubber bezel.Minor dents in the corners of the metal casing

The delaminated category only applies to certain models of MacBook Pro Retinas which include an “anti-reflective coating” on the glass surface that can begin to wear off with time. All delaminated display assemblies will share cosmetic grading with C-Stock assemblies, with the addition of delamination on the screen that does not interfere with visibility when the display is on. Please note: delamination will become worse if cleaning solutions are applied to the screen.

We reject any used displays that have:

  • Any functional issue.Cracked glass.Damage that obscures or distorts the display.Liquid damage.Missing subcomponent(s).Damaged cables or connectors.Stripped screws (if applicable).
