Introduction
If your battery is swollen, take appropriate precautions. For your safety, discharge your battery below 25% before disassembling your device. This reduces the risk of a dangerous thermal event if the battery is accidentally damaged during the repair.
You might need replacement adhesive to reattach components when reassembling the device.
What you need
Step 1
Turn off the mouse
- Flip the power switch into the OFF position before you begin any repairs.

Step 2
Heat the mouse feet
- If you’re planning to reuse the feet note that the adhesive needs to be thoroughly heated for them to be cleanly removed.
- Use an iOpener or hair dryer to heat the adhesive underneath the feet.
- A hair dryer or heat gun may also be used, but be careful not to overheat the mouse—the internal battery is susceptible to heat damage.

Step 3
- Locate the gap in the rim around each foot. This is where to place the tool in the next step.

Step 4
Remove the feet
- Repeat the following procedure on all four feet:
- Push the tip of an opening pick under the mouse foot adhesive where the gap in the rim is.
- Go slowly, and make sure the pick is underneath both the foot and its adhesive layer. It’s easy to separate the foot from its adhesive.
- Twist the opening pick to separate the foot from the bottom until you can grab it.
- Remove the foot.
- To reuse the feet softly tack them on a clean surface such as a magnetic mat or a sorting tray.

Step 5
Remove the case screws
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four 4.3 mm-long screws securing the two halves of the mouse together.

Step 6
Open the mouse
- Don’t completely separate the two halves yet—they’re still tethered together by a delicate cable.
- Open the top half of the mouse like a book to the right side.

Step 7
Open the ZIF connector
- Use the tip of a spudger, an opening tool, or your fingernail to flip up the small, hinged locking flap on the interconnect cable ZIF connector.

Unplug the battery connector
- Use a pair of pointy tweezers and insert its tips in the two cutouts in the connectors socket.
- Apply a concentrated and controlled force to not damage the motherboard by accidental slippage.

Step 15
Remove the battery
- The battery is adhered with mild adhesive. If necessary, use an iOpener or hair dryer to heat the battery and housing so that it is warm to the touch to soften the adhesive.
- Take care not to puncture or bend the battery with your tool—a punctured or bent battery may leak dangerous chemicals or cause a thermal event.
- Use the flat end of a spudger and insert it between the battery and its housing through one of the cutouts.
- Lever the battery out of the housing by prying it up and out of its recess.
- Remove the battery.
- If possible, turn on your device and test your repair before installing new adhesive and resealing.
- During reassembly, secure the new battery with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape. In order to position it correctly, apply the new adhesive into the device at the places where the old adhesive was located, not directly onto the battery. Press the new battery firmly into place.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. Apply new adhesive where necessary after cleaning the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).
For optimal performance, calibrate your newly installed battery: Charge it to 100% and keep charging it for at least 2 more hours. Then use your device until it shuts off due to low battery. Finally, charge it uninterrupted to 100%.
