Introduction

The auger bit is removed in this guide. While not necessary, removing it will make the repair easier.

What you need

Step 1

              Disconnect the spark plug               
  • Before you begin, make sure the engine is switched off and cool to the touch.
  • Pull the spark plug connector straight off of the spark plug.

              Remove the air filter cover               
  • Unscrew the bolt securing the air filter cover

  • Rotate the air filter cover 90° and lift it straight up to remove it.

              Remove the throttle cable               
  • Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the throttle cable clamp.

  • Use a pair of needle nose pliers to lift the throttle cable out of its slot on the throttle body.

  • Slide the throttle cable out of its clamp.

  • Use a pair of flush cutters to cut through the zip tie securing the throttle cable to the auger and remove it.
  • Repeat this step for all seven zip ties along the throttle cable.

  • Use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the throttle cable end clamp.

  • Remove the end of throttle cable from the clamp.

  • Loosen the red screw clamping the throttle cable in the holder on the handle.

  • Remove the throttle cable from its holder on the handle.

  • Slide the throttle cable out of the braided wiring sleeve.

              Remove the throttle lever               
  • The throttle lever is held in place by a flared rivet. You will need to replace this rivet with a new one, and re-flare it, during reassembly.
  • Use needle nose pliers to bend the flared end of the rivet inward to straighten it.

  • Use a pin punch and a hammer to tap the rivet out of the handle.

  • Use needle nose pliers to unhook the throttle lever spring from the throttle lever.

  • Remove the throttle lever.
  • Remove the throttle lever spring.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
