The laptop screen is flickering during normal use.

A faulty ribbon cable connecting the display to the motherboard can cause screen flickering. The cable flexes when the laptop is open or closed and can break down over time, leading to intermittent operation. Open the screen at several angles, apply pressure near the hinge, and see if display issues persist. Check for screen flickering in the BIOS (here’s how to access the BIOS). If flickering occurs within the BIOS, the device likely has a hardware issue. The display repair guide explains how to replace the touchscreen assembly.

Go to this page on Lenovo’s website to get the latest drivers. Download the applicable driver for your device. This is specific to your graphics adapter. Follow these steps to identify your display adapter.

An old BIOS can create system-wide issues. Visit this webpage to find the most current BIOS for your device.

If installing new drivers and BIOS do not resolve flickering, try hooking your laptop up to an external display. If the flickering does not occur on the external display, the problem likely lies within the connection between motherboard and laptop screen (refer to the LCD cable section). You may have a problem with the actual display adapter in your device if the flickering continues. In that case, consider a motherboard replacement.

The touch screen is not responding or only responding to the Active Pen.

Corruption issues can occur when your device’s main memory is overused, overwhelmed, and its storage builds with random, unimportant, and temporary data. These corruption issues can affect the touch screen and cause it to become unresponsive or only responsive to the pen. Restarting your device can wipe these corruption issues can restore your touch screen.

The touch screen driver is pre-installed software that allows the user to replace clicking with touching the screen. Like restarting your device, disabling and re-enabling your touch screen driver can wipe any issues with the touch screen driver. To disable and re-enable the touch screen driver:

  • Press the Windows button and “X” to open the Device Manager or press the Windows button and “r,” type “devmgmt.msc” in the Run box, and press “Enter” to open the Device Manager Panel.Click on the “Human Interface Devices” to display the drop-down menu and right-click on the “HID-compliant touch screen” option.Select the “Disable” option from the sub-menu. When prompted to confirm the action, click “Yes.”Right-click on the button again and choose “Enable” to re-enable the driver.

The touch screen driver is pre-installed software that allows the user to replace clicking with touching the screen. An outdated or incorrect touch screen driver installed on your device can make the touchscreen unresponsive. To resolve this issue, update or reinstall the touch screen driver using the free software, Driver Easy. To learn how to use Driver Easy, refer to this webpage.

Installing other USB devices on your computer, such as external keyboards and mouse devices, are not direct causes for touch screen failure but can worsen the issue. Lenovo’s service team has proprietary software to fix the issue. Before contacting and sending your device to the services team, try uninstalling any external USB devices connected to your computer.

The laptop does not fully charge, or charge at all when plugged into a power adapter.

It is normal to get a message that your laptop/battery is plugged in but not charging while your device is at or above 90-95% charge. The laptop may automatically stop charging at this point to prevent overcharging the battery. Unplug your charger and use the laptop until the charge falls well below 90%. Plug the charger back in and check if the laptop begins to charge.

A broken power adapter may provide intermittent or no power to the laptop. Try plugging a different working power adapter in to see if the laptop charges. Many computer stores will have an extra display adapter you can use for this purpose.

Drivers within Windows can prevent the battery from charging. Try following these steps:

  • Unplug the power adapterShutdown the computerPlug the power adapter back inRestart the laptopUse search (bottom left corner) and type “Device Manager”Click on the Device Manager panelNavigate to the Battery menu, right-click on all Microsoft ASCPI Compliant Method Battery options, and select uninstallShutdown the computerUnplug the power adapterPlug-in the power adapter againStart the computer and check if the charging works

The Active Pen is either only sometimes working or does not work at all.

A bad connection between the battery and battery terminals can negatively affect battery life.

First, check to see your pen’s battery life. Use the Lenovo Pen app installed on your computer to check the pen’s charge. Ensure you’re inserting the pen into the charging dock on the computer. If the pen does not seem to be charging while in the dock, try one or more of the following:

  • Clean the dock with a compressed air dust cleanerCharge the computer while charging the pen in the charging dockCheck to see if the connectors are still in their original positions (Refer to pictures below for how they should look). You can also tell if the connectors are damaged if the pen is not inserting correctly or does not stay in the charging dockIf the connectors are damaged or missing refer to a connector replacement guideReplace the batteries inside of the penAdd an extra spring inside of the battery compartment to help connectivity between the batteries and connectors

Connection issues can occur from a battery issue within the pen, poor signal connection, or Bluetooth devices that are interfering with the connection.

If the pen does not connect via Bluetooth with the computer

  • Ensure the pan has batteries for the Bluetooth module.Download the Wacom Driver and Wacom Pen ApplicationHold down the top of the pen for 3 seconds or until the LED on the pen is flashingTurn on Bluetooth from your computerPair with the ‘Active Pen’ device

Another possible measure is to uninstall the Lenovo Pen app, which may increase pen sensitivity and create a clear connection between the pen and the laptop. Refer to this manual for general setup and care directions.

When turned into tablet mode the onscreen keyboard freezes or does not show up at all

Firmware or software updates for your computer can accidentally remove some files or drivers, causing some applications and features not to work.

If you have recently experienced problems with your onscreen keyboard after an update, Jonas Hendricks from a Lenovo Support Forum suggests to do the following:

Visit Lenovo Support and reinstall:

  1. Eink Firmware Update Utility for Windows 10

  2. E-ink SDK st8951 Firmware

Restart your Lenovo Yoga Book C930; you should be good to go.

The onscreen keyboard is automatically disabled through a software/firmware update or manually disabled through the settings.

If you are experiencing trouble with the keyboard showing up while you are in tablet mode, go to your keyboard settings by following the directory path below.

Start > Control Panel > Ease of Access > Keyboard

You should see a box with text next to it that says ‘Onscreen Keyboard’. Check the box to enable the keyboard.

Additionally, make sure your drivers are up to date. You can update your drivers on Lenovo’s website.
