The battery won’t stay alive for long or will die instantly.

While we want to believe that the battery in our devices could last forever, unfortunately they can’t, occasionally you have to replace the battery in your laptop. This disassembly guide will show you how to take apart the laptop and access the battery.

While you are using your laptop and its charging but you see it dying, the charger could be another factor as to why your battery seems to be running low all the time. You should make sure your charger is the problem by using another charger and seeing if it will charge while laptop is in use.

The hard drive could cause a failed boot.

We expect our computer to turn on and work but sometimes that isn’t the case, the hard drive could be damaged or it could be as simple as being loose in the case. One way to know if it’s loose is by turning the laptop on and it says the hard drive is missing. You can follow the same disassembly guide to access the hard drive in the laptop. Specifically with this laptop it uses an M.2 SSD so you would need to check if the M.2 SSD is loose in its socket and push it back in.

While booting up the laptop it could have trouble trying to find the boot drive for the device, you can fix this by going into BIOS and scrolling over to the boot menu. You have to select the right drive to boot off of that has windows installed on it and you will be able to fix this issue.

You aren’t able to hear sound from your speakers.

Speakers on a laptop going bad isn’t a rare occurrence these things do happen but in most cases not hearing your audio could be an easy fix like, unmuting the device or fully plugging in your headset into the headphone jack. Make sure you have it completely plugged in. The other reason could be that there is a dust buildup not allowing your speakers to be able to produce sound, what you need to do is get some canned air and blow the dust out of the speakers.

Otherwise you may need install new audio drivers for your system. In order to get the right drivers you will first want to go to the manufacturers website and look up your device in the support side, you will get many options for updates to drivers but only select the ones that are needed for your device. This is a link to Lenovo’s support page.

Wi-Fi isn’t connecting or is turned off

There are many frustrations that come with Wi-Fi failing to connect. There are many sources to the problem of Wi-Fi not connecting. But there are many solutions to fixing it. Ram is running too high or system is freezing.

Sometimes your laptop may feel frozen or stop responding at times which can be caused by RAM going bad or not being configured correctly. You can see what kind of RAM is in your system by checking task manager and scrolling over to the performance tab. If it seems your RAM is running too high or isn’t at the correct amount it could be a BIOS problem. Since the RAM in a Lenovo Yoga 720-12IKB is soldered onto the motherboard you have no way of replacing it. You can still change some settings in the BIOS to troubleshoot the issues though. To get into BIOS you will need to hold shift while clicking restart from the shutdown menu, after that you want to click advanced options and then select UEFI firmware settings. While checking in BIOS you can see if your ram isn’t set to the maximum. If it isn’t set to what was promised out of the box you can check to see if your laptop is still under warranty as this may be a manufacturer problem.

If you have unusually large RAM usage you can always turn off background apps to free up RAM that is being used. To be able to do that you have to

  • Go to settingsClick on the privacy tabScroll over to background appsSet apps you don’t use to off

This can always help clear up RAM being used because the more apps open in the background the more your computer works. This is a good fix for systems running Windows 10.
