Device does not power on when power button is pressed or does not charge while plugged in

Ensure that the charge light is on when the power adaptor is plugged in. If light is not on, then your power adaptor may be faulty. Try wiggling connection to the laptop to see if the charge light will turn on because there may be a bad connection. Check for a bad adaptor by disconnecting the battery and trying to turn the laptop on with the adaptor connected. If the adaptor appears to be in working order, then the battery may need to be replaced.

If device only turns on when plugged into power adaptor, then the battery may not be able to hold charge. Follow this guide to replace it.

Certain buttons on keyboard stick or do not type.

Ensure that the keyboard is clean. Using a compressed air duster, clean underneath the keys that are sticky. If the problem persists, you may have a faulty keyboard. Follow this video from Lenovo’s website on how to replace it.

If keys are unresponsive, then you may need to replace the keyboard. Ensure that all device drivers are up to date. If the problem persists, consider replacing the keyboard. Follow this video from Lenovo’s website on how to replace it.

Your computer will shut off after overheating warning displayed.

Check fan ventilation on the bottom and rear of the computer for any dust or debris. If clogged, use pressurized air to clean vents.

If the air vents are clean and your device is still overheating, you might have a faulty CPU fan or broken heat sink. Follow this guide to replace it.

Device displays windows crash/memory dump message on screen and shuts down.

Ensure that all drivers are installed/updated correctly if problem is caused when running a specific program or service. Windows 10 will run a diagnostic on itself to resolve any software issues. If the problem persists then consider replacing the RAM module.

Check the manufacturer’s manual for new devices to download or to install new drivers and then run windows normally. If problem persists, RAM Module may be faulty; consider replacing it. Unplug new devices and run windows normally. If problem persists, consider replacing RAM module.

If crashes are occasional then the RAM itself may not be faulty, but may have become loose or have a bad connection. Ensure that the module itself is fully seated in the motherboard. Ensure that the module does not appear to be damaged in any way. If crashes occur frequently, then the RAM module should be replaced. Follow this guide to replace it.

If crashes are infrequent or occur when loading a specific program, and you have ensured that all drivers and the software itself are up to date, then the issue may be due to a faulty hard drive. Ensure that the hard drive is not damaged in anyway and that it is seated fully in the motherboard. If the problem persists, please follow this guide to replace it.

Device turns on but does not launch Windows.

If the device turns on and shows the Lenovo logo but does not launch Windows (ie Windows Logo is not shown) then the boot order may be incorrect. Follow the instructions here in order to check the hard drive. If the suggested fixes do not solve the problem, then your hard drive may be faulty. Follow the instructions in this guide to replace it.
